What happens when you find yourself in a lull ---a place where business has become less intense or desirable?
Maybe you can't imagine a time when the passion that kept you up all night, burned a fire in your soul, and fed your mental, physical, and spiritual hunger, ceases to exist, but it happens.
The question is: What do you do in the mean time? How do you break out of that neutral place? How do you come back from a place you never thought you'd be --- perhaps even a place you hadn't recognized until just this moment?
If you've found yourself in a lull, here are a few suggestions:
1. Recognizing where you are is the first step to recovery. Staying in a place of denial is no way to address the issue.
2. Re-evaluate your business, your values, your strategies, and your market. Somewhere in this mix, you'll find an answer --- Are you doing what you want to do? Are you inline with your values? Are your strategies working? Are you serving the ideal market (people that want, need and will buy your product or service)?
3. Get a fresh perspective. You are too close to your business to be unbiased. Now is a great time to pull together an advisory board, find a mentor, or talk to a business consultant.
4. Evaluate productivity. Not getting the results you want can pull you into a lull. If you feel you are putting a lot of energy into what you're doing, but not getting the results you want, take a step back. Let go of the dead weight activities. Remember, being busy doesn't equate to being productive.
5. Get your life in order. If you don't think your personal life can effect your business life you're wrong. Poor physical fitness, negative relationships, loss, too much stress, etc. can all spill over into your business life and can take a toll on your outlook and attitude, if not properly addressed.
Take time to assess your situation, fix what's broken and revive your vision!
